The following statement highlights the significance and creative journey behind my final project at the esteemed Malaysia Institute of Art, Kuala Lumpur, in 1998. Consisting of six pieces, these acrylic paintings vividly depict the vibrant cultural tapestry and diverse atmosphere in Jalan Petaling in 1998. This endeavour allowed me to immerse myself in the captivating essence of this locale, dedicating countless hours to capturing the essence of its people, their interactions, and the rich culinary experiences that unfolded.
Undertaking this series was an advantageous experience, enabling me to fully explore the multifaceted nature of Jalan Petaling's cultural richness. Engaging in a comprehensive process, I dedicated a substantial portion of my time to connecting with the surroundings intimately. By frequenting Jalan Petaling every week, I meticulously documented its diverse facets through my camera lens, keenly observing daily life's various people, interactions, and moments.
Through my encounters with the locals, I engaged in enlightening conversations, fostering a deeper understanding of the unique customs and traditions interwoven within the fabric of Jalan Petaling. This interaction provided invaluable insights that ultimately informed my artistic interpretations, allowing me to encapsulate the essence of this cultural hotspot in a visually compelling manner.
